An important part of Dothan’s CityFest 2012 is the CityFest Market, located in the Historic Downtown Dothan area along North and South Foster Street.

Stroll among vendor booths filled with a variety of items such as antiques, arts, crafts, collectibles, plants and locally produced edibles and sundries.

Geocache Treasure Hunt

“Cache” me if you Can: A Geocache Treasure Hunt is happening this Saturday, March 31 at the Landmark Park.

You can go on a real life treasure hunt in search of caches of hidden prizes using a handheld GPS unit or smart phone. Introduction workshop for beginners on the basics of using a GPS unit will be held in the Interpretive Center auditorium. The beginners will then have the chance to test their skills with caches throughout the park.

Registration for the advanced course with prizes will begin at 10:30am and the hunt will start at 11:00am. You may enter as an individual or a team but only one prize will be awarded per registration. Registration is $10. Click here for updates.

Battle of the Roux Charity Gumbo Cookoff

Here comes the tasty party of the 2012 Dothan CityFest – the Battle of the Roux! This Charity Gumbo Cookoff for the benefit the ALS Association, fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease is happening on Saturday, March 31 from 5:00pm to 10:00pm at the Dothan Civic Center.

The the10th Annual Edition of the TriStates100 is happening this Sunday, April 1 at 7:00am. Events will start at the Dothan Civic Center.

Troy University Symphony Band

The Troy University Symphony Band is performing this Friday, March 30, 7:30pm at the Dothan Opera House.

This performance is comprised of the top 55 wind and percussion students in the John M. Long School of Music, the Symphony Band is dedicated to the performance of the finest of wind literature and to the promotion of new music for winds & percussion. This premier group has recently completed its first international tour, performing for enthusiastic audiences in Vancouver and at the Whistler Music Festival in Canada.

23rd Annual Alzheimer’s Conference

alzheimersThe 23rd Annual Alzheimer’s Conference will take place at the Dothan Civic Center on Wednesday, March 28 from 7:30am to 3:15pm.

The line-up of speakers for “New Understandings of Alzheimer’s Disease” includes Dr. David Geldmacher, director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Division of Memory Disorders and Behavioral Neurology and a professor of neurobiology; Dr. Cleveland Kinney, professor emeritus of psychiatry and behavioral neurobiology at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham; Jennifer Elgin, clinic coordinator of the Driving Assessment Clinic, School of Medicine at UAB; and Deputy Scott Wilson, Project Lifesaver coordinator for the Houston County Sheriff’s Department.

The Alabama Wildlife & Outdoor Expo

The Alabama Wildlife & Outdoor Expo was the brian child of Angelia Turner Events and was established just this year to benefit the Murals of the Wiregrass.

In funding the 23rd mural in Downtown Dothan, AL. The Wildlife Mural will be painted by world-renown artist Eddie LeRoy from Eufaula, AL and will be a three panel project located on the Mayer Electric Building on N. Foster Street.

The Widlife Expo is intended to not only raise funds for the project but to bring awareness to the Murals located downtown, and to also bring traffic to this area in conjunction with the Dothan CityFest (www.dothancityfest.com).

Both the Expo and CityFest will take place March 30-April 1, 2012 at the Dothan Civic Center.

The Expo will run Friday afternoon with doors opening at 2:30pm – 8:00pm, Saturday 9:00am – 5:00pm and Sunday 10:00am – 4:00pm.
