For the first time in the event’s history, PorktoberQue will also be a stop on the highly competitive Alabama BBQ Trail, supervised by the Alabama Barbecue Association (ABA).
The ABA was formed in 2006 to oversee the prestigious Alabama Governor’s Cup, which is awarded to the professional barbecue team with the highest overall points in their top five contests on the Alabama Barbecue Trail.
PorktoberQue features over $5,000.00 in prize money to competitors, and also gives the Grand Champion a free entry into the 2014 World Series Of BBQ at the American Royal in Kansas City, MO.
Additionally, the winner will have their name placed on a “bung” in Lynchburg Tennessee.
The bungs from Alabama contest winners are placed into the state entry pool for the Jack Daniels Invitational Barbecue to see who will represent the state at “the Jack” in 2014.
A free downtown evening celebration there will be street vendors, live music and antique cars.
The 100 block of N. Foster will be closed for through traffic and lined with antique cars, while citizens enjoy the shops, vendor booths, festivities, music and drinks.
